All Aboard the Huckabus

The Huckabus steamrolled through Southeastern Michigan yesterday, and hundreds of fans lined up to get a copy of Governor Huckabee's "A Simple Christmas." One hardy young man from the Army, Matthew Witt of Wyoming, arrived in Schuler's Books and Music in Grand Rapids for eight hours to be first to get his book signed with Governor Huckabee. Hundreds of others waited to have their copy of "A Simple Christmas autographed by the governor.

I greeted many of those in line by inviting them to join our new networking site www.teamhuckmichigan.ning. It seems everyone had the same sentiments I did: Michigan and this country needs real change (not the phony bureaucratic jobs kind) Spending our way out of our problems hasn't worked and won't work- not for the individual, not for the State of Michigan and not for our country.

Governor Huckabee has real solutions for this jobless economy we are in. He has long been a proponent of the Fair Tax. I was able to listen to him aboard the Huckabus as he welcomed Dawn Dayton as the new executive director of Fair Tax Michigan. If Michigan would just institute this change, we'd see thousands of new jobs in Michigan. If the country would implement the Fair tax, perhaps millions of new jobs would be created. Fifteen trillion dollars of business is waiting off-shore to come home statewide- if we would remove those hefty corporate taxes and capital gains.

Debra Mantey, my co-coordinator for HuckpacMichigan, got to give a hug to Jack Hoogendyk, former candidate for Governor of Michigan 2006. If Michigan had elected this fair-tax minded man, I guarantee Michigan wouldn't be in the desperate situation it is in today.

My evening ended with a very special treat. Tommy Hanns, owner of nine Hann's Steakhouses, served up his delicious sizzlers to the Fair Tax supporters. He knows, as a small businessman, that the Fair Tax would allow his business to run more efficiently. The waitstaff would be delighted if they could keep the money the IRS now takes.

Maybe what Governor Huckabee is offering is a simpler America. Thats why the line of people was so long. It is what we need.

Should the government determine when I need a mammogram?

Enough is enough! I have been caring for a mother with breast cancer. Her surgery, and after care has been painful and difficult. Breast cancer is something I don't ever want to experience for myself. Early detection has prevented thousands of deaths in this the second biggest killer of women.

Because my mother has breast cancer, I am at higher risk of contracting this disease. My doctor needs to make the decision when I should have a mammogram- not the government! My life may depend on it.

Furthermore, for this government to tell women not to bother doing a monthly self-exam is incomprehensibly negligent and dangerous. Women should not check themselves for possible lumps? Self-examination has prevented thousands of deaths. Just who does this administration think they are? I am sickened by their anti-life policies. They support the killing of the unborn, suggest that the elderly get death-counseling, and now tell women that they shouldn't get mammograms until age fifty instead of forty. This advice may be ten years too late for thousands of women, including me.

Government should leave my health up to me and my doctor! No way do I want nationalized health care. Then I become just a number- and an expendable one.

Storm the Capital-November 5, 2009

In less than an hour, many patriots will storm the capital. I am so proud of them! This acrostic is for you:

Speak loud and clear to Congress, today you are my voice
Tell them we're having a tea party in their honor, that's our choice
Our liberty is at stake
Restrain the spending, for this country's sake!
Mean it when you say, "we cannot afford this!"

Tell them "It is our money you plan to spend."
Hear us Congress "no taxation without representation!"
Encircle their offices and roar louder than before!

Confront them and state you will protect seniors
Add that you will fight to protect the unborn
Pause and pray that the Lord will guide you
Inform Congress "You work for us"
Tell them you will not sit quietly by as they destroy the economy
At stake is your health, and your children's heath
Lead on, knowing I am praying for you now

Proverbial wisdom

Last night, November 3, I watched the election returns with a new found hope in my heart. Emily Dickenson said "Success is counted sweetest by those who ne'er succeed, to comprehend a nectar requires sorest need." Conservatives needed a win and the night did not disappoint.

Congratulations Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And it came beautifully wrapped up in a three-tiered package of Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli. When the race was called for Chris Christie I saw knew that New Jersians were tired of blue solutions. I saw Christie as offering a conservative solution that New Jersey residents were hungry for. They needed jobs more than empty promises. Seeing New Jersey turn red was a great way to start this holiday season.

The night showed us a path to winning- by pointing out how we can fix problems. It serves as an example as to how we will reclaim America, one state at a time. To the pundits who say this is not a foreshadowing of the conservative wins in the future I say read Proverbs 18:2

2 A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.

More Proverbial Change

In regards to the behemoth Health Care bills being proposed by both houses...
What good are they if they fail to do what they set out to do? If they are enacted and our premiums go up? If they are enacted and we lose two million jobs? If we pay more and receive less? Both bills are examples of Congress being out of touch with what the people want really. The documents are just the pontifications of pondering politicians wanting to pocket our money in their own potshards. Just like that last sentence, congress needs a K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid!

The more the words, the less the meaning, and how does that profit anyone?
Ecclesiastes 6:11

Proverbial Change

I have been reading the Bible through in 90 Days. The more I read Proverbs on this chilly election day of November 03, 2009, the more I see how Gods word is relevant. There is much relevance in the ancient words of wise King Solomon who gave him wisdom. The verses I read are good for my own correction and for my country. So beginning today, I'll select a passage or verse from the Bible and apply to what I see going on around me. You can tell me if what I see as applicable is of any worth.

Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

I went to the polls today at noon. I was number 152 to vote in my town of 22,000. It was a pathetic turnout as usual for a "non-Presidential" year election. What was important was a new millage to build a new community center costing 15 million dollars. The old center is just fine. Not spiffy, but functional. This juncture would cost each resident hundreds of new dollars in taxation. Our streets are filled with for sale signs and foreclosures. Hundreds of neighbors are out of work. Our elderly citizens are just getting by.

I see danger ahead, and do not believe this is the appropriate time to place a new tax burden on my neighbors. The simple "dead-heads" keep going and we are going to suffer for it.
