All Aboard the Huckabus

The Huckabus steamrolled through Southeastern Michigan yesterday, and hundreds of fans lined up to get a copy of Governor Huckabee's "A Simple Christmas." One hardy young man from the Army, Matthew Witt of Wyoming, arrived in Schuler's Books and Music in Grand Rapids for eight hours to be first to get his book signed with Governor Huckabee. Hundreds of others waited to have their copy of "A Simple Christmas autographed by the governor.

I greeted many of those in line by inviting them to join our new networking site www.teamhuckmichigan.ning. It seems everyone had the same sentiments I did: Michigan and this country needs real change (not the phony bureaucratic jobs kind) Spending our way out of our problems hasn't worked and won't work- not for the individual, not for the State of Michigan and not for our country.

Governor Huckabee has real solutions for this jobless economy we are in. He has long been a proponent of the Fair Tax. I was able to listen to him aboard the Huckabus as he welcomed Dawn Dayton as the new executive director of Fair Tax Michigan. If Michigan would just institute this change, we'd see thousands of new jobs in Michigan. If the country would implement the Fair tax, perhaps millions of new jobs would be created. Fifteen trillion dollars of business is waiting off-shore to come home statewide- if we would remove those hefty corporate taxes and capital gains.

Debra Mantey, my co-coordinator for HuckpacMichigan, got to give a hug to Jack Hoogendyk, former candidate for Governor of Michigan 2006. If Michigan had elected this fair-tax minded man, I guarantee Michigan wouldn't be in the desperate situation it is in today.

My evening ended with a very special treat. Tommy Hanns, owner of nine Hann's Steakhouses, served up his delicious sizzlers to the Fair Tax supporters. He knows, as a small businessman, that the Fair Tax would allow his business to run more efficiently. The waitstaff would be delighted if they could keep the money the IRS now takes.

Maybe what Governor Huckabee is offering is a simpler America. Thats why the line of people was so long. It is what we need.
